It has been decades since I’ve skied the East. Once I discovered Western skiing, I traded the long flight for the long drive, eventually moving to Utah to shorten the time to the slopes. But Don Burch is giving me second thoughts. He’s developed an appealing alternative ski video genre (shot largely at Eastern areas). His most recent, “Fun Times at Mount Snow, Okemo & Stratton,” makes me long for those long-gone New England ski days.

Don, a retired School Psychologist, has been skiing since the early 1960s. Most of his skiing is in New York and New England. He has been a ski instructor at Lost Valley, King Pine and Sunday River. Each season he likes to ski at areas he's never been to. Don also make it a point to support local and independently owned ski areas by skiing them several time each season. Though skiing is Don's main passion he also enjoys kayaking, windsurfing, inline speed skating, trail running and cycling.

Great video, as usual. I started skiing at age 44 at the aptly-named Suicide Six in Vermont during an ice storm – had to scrape the ice off my goggles and got my self-respect battered on the J-bar, but loved the sport just the same. Continued my skiing career several years later in Utah and became a western ski snob; still at it at 81.
